Black Saturday Dark Beer fest dims the taps in SW Portland

Avoid the bargain shoppers and post-Thanksgiving hangover and skip Black Friday for Uptown Beer Co.’s eighth annual Black Saturday dark beer festival on November 30, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM. The festival attracts dark beer enthusiasts on the southwest side of Portland in the Raleigh-Hills neighborhood bordering Beaverton. This year’s lineup features rare beers from Alesong, Firestone Walker, Epic, Ex Novo, Deschutes, Fort George, Crux, pFriem, Block15, Goose Island, Fremont, and more.

Black Saturday was founded by Managing Partner Josh Johnson eight years ago as a way to showcase unique dark beers. Over time, it has become one of Uptown’s most anticipated events. “We’re doing something really special here,” Johnson says. “You often see beer aged in bottles, but it’s rare to see it aged in kegs. We’re able to tap a beer, pull it off, and then re-carbonate to age it properly and present it multiple years in a row. Black Saturday lets us taste how the flavors evolve over time.”

Uptown’s Beer Buyer and Manager, Robert Pouder, adds, “What makes this event so great is being able to go back year after year to try all these incredible beers. I’m especially excited to try new releases like the Little Beast and Moksa collab, Scylla’s Revenge, and 2024’s Block 15 Super Nebula.”

The event will feature over 20 dark beers, most of which are barrel-aged. Tickets are available for $30 at www.uptownbeer.co, and includes a commemorative goblet, sticker, and 5 tasters. In addition, Uptown will open its exclusive “Beer Jail” with rare and aged bottles available for purchase only on the day of the event. MidCity SmashedBurgers, named Oregonian Reader’s Choice 4th Best Burger, will be on site serving up cheeseburgers. Please note, Black Saturday is a 21+ event.

Uptown Beer Co. is a pub and bottle shop located at 6620 SW Scholls Ferry Road PORTLAND, OR, housed in a former convenience store. For nearly 13 years, it has offered a curated selection of craft beers, ciders, wines, and more. The venue features over 30 taps, 700 cans and bottles, ample dog-friendly seating, and an all-ages heated patio. Uptown’s website offers live inventory for online orders and pickup.
