Oregon’s state-wide brewery open house Zwickelmania makes moves in 2025

February is officially Oregon Craft Beer Month, and the largest event Zwickelmania is making moves in 2025. The annual state-wide celebration of local breweries put on by industry trade organization the Oregon Brewers Guild will run all February long, but arguably the most popular event is moving dates to avoid conflicts.

Zwickelmania is a state-wide brewery open house event named after the “zwickel,” a German word for the sample port found on fermentation vessels. The public is welcomed in to the production areas to see where and how the beer is made, with free beer samples straight off of the tanks (via the zwickel) and intimate access to brewers and staff. Since 2009 Zwickelmania has been a premiere event bringing in thousands of beer nerds and the beer curious. Many breweries add their own flair onto Zwickelmania, such as new beer releases, tastings from the barrel, food specials, and sometimes coinciding parties like anniversaries.

Always previously held during the Valentine’s Day weekend, Zwickelmania for a time celebrated in Portland on the 2nd Saturday of the month and in the rest of the state the following Saturday. However what has become one of the most popular Oregon festivals takes place in Astoria, Oregon on the same date, Fort George Brewery’s Festival of the Dark Arts.

To simplify things and make it easier for both the public and breweries to participate, the Oregon Brewers Guild is moving Zwickelmania 2025 to February 22nd. The Oregon Brewers Guild anticipates more than 50 breweries across the state will participate in this tradition with most events taking place between 11 am-4 pm, but times/event details may vary by location.

There are a variety of unique celebrations happening. Breweries will offer beer samples directly from the zwickel, beer releases, tours, educational talks, food and beer pairings, specials, meet-the-brewer opportunities and more.

In Portland, there is a free shuttle making stops at more than a dozen breweries. Enjoy this free, non-ticketed event responsibly.

Breweries in every region are hosting events this year. Highlights (not a complete list) include:
