Grand Opening of Von Ebert Brewing’s new N. Mississippi Ave. location

The much delayed and meticulously constructed new Von Ebert Brewing flagship location officially opens to the public this Saturday, March 1st. The Portland, Oregon founded Von Ebert Brewing launched as a NW Pearl District brewpub in 2018 from the ashes of the former Fat Head’s Brewing, expanding to a Glendoveer golf course location and a satellite pizzeria in Beaverton. Last April the brewery closed their original homebase in the Pearl to refocus efforts on an expanded new production brewery at the home of the former Ecliptic Brewing mother ship at 825 N Cook St, off of Mississippi Ave.

Von Ebert Brewing on N. Mississippi is one of our most anticipated new Oregon breweries and taprooms of 2025, not the least because it will be the new permanent home of cult-favorite barbecue pop-up HarBQ, in addition to all the world-class beers.

HarBQ is Oregon oak smoked PNW “style” BBQ done right. While a barbeque company focused on sourcing and cooking high quality meats, HarBQ also tries to provide delicious seasonal veggie options. HarBQ will start with a 3-day a week schedule Friday-Sunday, then eventually expanding to Thursday. Outside food will also be allowed and Von Ebert plans to bring in more food trucks in the future.

“This was a no-brainer. I’m glad to have a more permanent space next to some of Portland’s finest brewers,” said Harlan Porterfield, chef and owner of HarQB. “To kick off this partnership, I collaborated with the Von Ebert Brewing team to create ‘The Company We Keep XPA’ because nothing goes better with amazing barbeque than award-winning crisp, refreshing Von Ebert beer.”

The Company We Keep XPA will be available in 16oz cans and draft at Von Ebert Brewing locations, as well as in Northwest bars, bottleshops and grocery stores.

But don’t expect the new Von Ebert to follow the same full-service model as they had in the Pearl, or as Ecliptic Brewing did in this same location. Instead of a full sit down restaurant and bar with table service, this Von Ebert will be focused on a casual taproom experience with counter service and won’t operate a kitchen or offer a food menu outside of food trucks. The interior space itself will also be smaller than when it was Ecliptic with only about half the square footage by eliminating the previous dining area. The bar will start out with beer and wine only, 16 taps with Von Ebert beer and guest ciders and n/a options. Having a full liquor bar is something they want to add in the future, complete with a slushy machine for summer.

Much of the taproom décor is coming from local and N. Mississippi nursery, Pistils. The design incorporates greenery and dark tones for a cozy vibe, with some touches from the old Pearl District location. Before summer, Von Ebert Brewing will build out an outdoor patio space with trellis’ and a stage for live music and events like the popular Portland Beer Week event Brewers & Their Bands.

The primary reason for the big Von Ebert move was to expand brewing operations to be able to fulfill more markets and produce a lot more beer at an even higher quality on draft and in cans for grocery and convenience stores. They have pulled out the old Ecliptic Brewing 15 bbl brewhouse and upgraded to a 5-vessel 30bbl system with mash mixer, later tun, kettle, wort receiver and whirlpool. Previously Von Ebert could produce about 4,000 barrels of beer a year, now they can grow to up to 20,000. With an in-house canning line they no longer need to use mobile canning, soon look for 12oz cans and 6-packs of Volatile Substance NW IPA, Sector 7 Hazy IPA, Pils a German-style Pilsner and Clubhaus American Light Lager. Another big benefit of the new brewery is flexibility to fill extra capacity with contract brewing, a program that is already starting up with Kings & Daughters Brewing.

“Since we moved in nearly a year ago to expand brewing capacity, N. Mississippi Ave. has been a truly welcoming home to Von Ebert Brewing. We’re looking forward to being good neighbors, bringing more people to this part of town. So please join us when floating down the Mississippi,” said Sam Pecoraro, brewmaster of Von Ebert Brewing. “We’re fortunate to continue to invest in Portland, expanding our production and distribution so we can sell more of our award-winning beer here in Oregon and now in neighboring states. We’re excited to open the taproom so people can continue to taste our award-winning beers, where tradition meets evolution.”

Doors open at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 1st for the Von Ebert N. Mississippi location Grand opening. The first few hundred guests will receive a commemorative t-shirt marking the occasion. And throughout 2025, customers can purchase 20oz steins of Clubhaus Lager for just $3 only at the new location.

Von Ebert N. Mississippi location will be open from noon to 10 pm seven days a week at 825 N Cook St, Portland, OR 97227
